Standard Guide for Use of Infrared Thermography in Evaluation of Buildings, Building Systems, and Equipment

Importancia y uso:

3.1 This guide is intended for use by individuals who evaluate buildings for air infiltration/exfiltration, water intrusion and accumulation, energy use, building code, insulation conditions, heat loss, and other purposes, including identification of pipes, ducts, and identification of electrical anomalies, such as they relate to high current conditions. Infrared thermography can be a powerful diagnostic tool when used appropriately and correlated with direct measurement techniques to confirm the accuracy of conclusions regarding the data. It provides the ability to survey large areas, such as roofs and walls, in a relatively short time frame. This guide can be used to assist in identifying areas of air and water infiltration/exfiltration in buildings, building envelopes, and systems.

3.2 Images and data attained with infrared thermography regarding thermal anomalies in the building envelope may aid in assessment of moisture content in building materials. When used for this purpose, direct measurement techniques should be used at representative locations to confirm the presence of the thermal anomalies indicated by the images and data with actual conditions. This guide includes tutorial information to inform the user of the significance of conditions which can affect the interpretation of images and data attained using infrared thermography.
