Standard Guide for Selection of Walkway Surfaces and Treatments When Considering Aggressive Contaminant Conditions in Commercial and Industrial Environments (Not Including Construction Work)

Importancia y uso:

5.1 Slip hazards created by aggressive contaminants on walkways may be found in commercial and industrial settings including fresh produce display areas, manufacturing processes, food preparation and processing areas, rendering operations, transportation and cargo handling activities, petroleum drilling platforms, and other similar environments.

5.2 Stairs, platforms, operator standing locations, catwalks, ramps, and other similar surfaces should be considered as walkway surfaces when analyzing the available friction of walkways in commercial and industrial environments where aggressive contaminants are determined to be a factor.

5.3 Following a risk analysis, the friction-reducing characteristics of aggressive contaminants for a walkway surface should be considered when selecting walkway surfaces or treatments that are suitably contamination-tolerant under expected conditions of use.

5.4 Changes in the friction-reducing characteristics of aggressive contaminants on each walkway surface should be periodically reviewed, along with reported incidents or near-miss incidents, to determine whether modifications need to be made to work processes or methods, walkway surfaces, or treatments.
